The exciting new Scorpa SY250F four-stroke was previewed at the French World Round, and has proved itself in a strong first showing in the SSDT. It was also the first of the new generation four-strokes to be Top 10 at it's first international trial. Based on the Yamaha YZ-250F engine, a liquid-cooled, double overhead cam, five-valve engine, it has been heavily modified for trials. Modifications include trials specific transmission, flywheel, clutch, ignition, etc. The totally new frame uses chromoly steel tubing linked to a forged billet aluminum sub-frame, technology found in the Aerospace and Formula 1 industries. The new, 700-gram lighter, swing-arm uses extruded honeycomb billet aluminum linked to a new Paoli rear shock. The brakes are a new design, with a 182-millimeter diameter floating disc up front, and 144-millimeter non-floating disc on the rear. The new discs have been increased in thickness to improve braking performance and reduce noise. The front forks are a new Paoli design, and significantly lighter than the previous model.
The handlebar and foot-peg mounts have variable positioning, allowing them to be moved forward and backward to suit the riders preference. The bike also has a new air-box and filter design, using a cotton air filter element as found in Formula 1 racing. The aluminum dual exhaust looks straight out of World Superbikes with its under-seat design wrapped in black protectors. The unique design feature utilizes the exhaust as the rear sub-frame to add strength and save weight.
The 2007 model has new brake pedal, new muffler, new swing-arm modifications, and new electronic components. It has performance mods to the Intake system for more sustained bottom end response, a new clutch pack increasing feel and “bite”, and new graphics which enhance its elegant lines and purposeful stance. The Scorpa Team have gone all out to make this the yardstick by which all trial bikes will be judged.
